Immunisation > Tuberculosis (Mantoux & BCG)

As healthcare workers we are offered vaccination for infections we may be exposed to occupationally.  We recommend that you read the information provided below prior to your appointment.

In advance of offering the BCG vaccination we are required to undertake a screening for tuberculosis called a Mantoux test. The Mantoux test is where a small amount of tuberculin protein is injected intradermally into the skin on the forearm. Any reaction to this is then measured 48 – 72 hours later.

Patient Information Leaflets (PIL):

Following successful screening you will be offered the BCG vaccine:

For clients who have previously received the BCG vaccine but have potentially been exposed to tuberculosis we may offer screening to identify potential latent tuberculosis.  Information regards this can be found under the Health Surveillance Tuberculosis section of this site.
