Working Health Services Scotland – Ill health and absence – Workplace guidance – Healthy Working Lives – Public Health Scotland

Working Health Services is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by local NHS Services. We provide a free and confidential service to the self-employed, and individuals employed by companies with less than 250 employees. Our service’s aim is to support you or your employees to remain in work or return to work when they are experiencing issues affecting Health and Wellbeing.
We offer rapid access to individual assessment, advice and support and when appropriate referral and prompt access to interventions such as Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Talking Therapies.

With your Case Manager you will develop a personal action plan including the following:

  • Agreed S.M.A.R.T goals
  • Recommendations to support you at work, such as adjustments or training
  • Recommendations for your employer, should you wish to share this document with them
  • Support and self-help recommendation

This service is proven effective in reducing absence from work and supporting people to remain at work.

Who is it for?

Employees of small and medium (SME) sized companies (under 250 employees) or self-employed people who are absent from work or experiencing health or wellbeing issues impacting upon them at work.

Working Health Services is seeking to enhance links with local SME’s and it is keen to develop strategies to support you and your employees.

Please contact the case manager if you would like any further information about our service. If beneficial we would be able to offer workplace visits to support the health and wellbeing of your workforce.

We can provide you with leaflets to make available to employees with our details. Please contact the case manager for Grampian directly on gram.whss@nhs.scot.

I am an employee of an SME or self-employed:

Please call 0800 019 2211 to enrol with Working Health Services. This number connects to the national service, and they will enrol you into the program and forward details to the local Case Manager. At busy times this number may go to a voicemail service, please leave a clear message with your name and contact number. If you have any difficulties accessing this number, please contact the local case manager via email gram.whss@NHS.scot.

You may find it helpful to have a look at NHS Inform for any advice or support in the interim and please contact your GP practice if required. I am a Health and Social Care Professional or a Third Sector Partner seeking support for my client:

Working Health Services is seeking to strengthen links with local health and social care professionals and third sector partners. Please contact the case manager directly if you wish to explore any collaborative working opportunities to support the health of self-employed or employees of SME. We are happy to attend any events or speak with groups about our service.

Self-referral would be a preferred route of access to our service, but we are happy to accept direct referrals from health and social care professionals and third sector partners, please contact case manager on gram.whss@nhs.scot for referral form and information.
